The WVU Faculty Senate unanimously approved WVUe 191: First-Year Seminar, a graduation requirement, on April 11. This course will replace University 101, which was approved in 2002. The approval by Faculty Senate was a culmination of a collaborative effort involving various stakeholders across campus.
The course will provide students the opportunity to work more closely with instructors and connect them earlier to their academic department or residence hall and the University at large. With this change, the curriculum will focus primarily on academics and the academic transition from high school to West Virginia University.
Additionally, students will be provided the opportunity to experience WVU through meaningful and enriching experiences. In addition to this course, several majors and departments will be offering First-Year Seminars for the first time Fall 2011.
